Jamestown-Scotland Ferry May Experience Potential Service Interruptions Due to Tidal Conditions

SURRY/JAMESTOWN — Starting Wednesday morning, Sept. 23, the Jamestown-Scotland Ferry may experience potential intermittent service outages due to forecasted high tide levels associated with an approaching storm system. Service interruptions may occur through Thursday night into Friday.

Current forecasts indicate higher-than-normal tide levels may remain elevated for longer periods than typically experienced, resulting in the potential for extended service interruptions. At this time, the highest potential for service interruptions is during high tide periods around mid-morning Wednesday, late Wednesday evening into early Thursday, Thursday morning into early afternoon, and late Thursday evening into early Friday. Estimates of timing are based on current tide predictions and are subject to change.

High water caused by higher-than-normal tide levels and strong winds can prevent the loading ramps on the docks from being safely raised and lowered onto the ferry boats. If service is reduced or suspended, it will be restored as soon as waters recede, allowing ramps to be safely secured for loading vehicles.

Alternate route to Jamestown from the Surry boarding location:

• Take Route 10 to Route 258 to the James River Bridge (Route 17);

• Follow signs for I-64 west;

• Exit onto Route 199 west (exit 242A) toward Williamsburg; and

• Follow to Route 31 (Jamestown Road).

Alternate route to Surry from the Jamestown boarding location:

• Take Route 31 to Route 199. Make a right onto Route 199;

• Merge onto I-64 east and take the James River Bridge exit;

• After traveling over the James River Bridge, make a right onto Route 258, followed by another right onto Route 10; and

• Follow Route 10 to the town of Surry traffic signal.
