SENATOR FLEXER WELCOMES ADDITIONAL STATE FUNDING FOR SCOTLAND TOWN HALL REPAIRS
SCOTLAND – State Senator Mae Flexer today announced the approval of $1.1 million in state funding to help complete modernizing renovations to the historic, 132-year-old Scotland Town Hall that will provide access for people with disabilities, address structural deficiencies and code and safety violations, enhance energy efficiency, and preserve key historic features of the building.
The state’s Community Investment Fund 2030 Board approved funding for the project at its meeting today in Hartford. Under state law, the State Bond Commission must approve the project and release the funds within 60 days.
“The Town of Scotland has worked diligently to advance this project, and I am thrilled that the State of Connecticut is going to continue to provide the funding necessary to see it through to completion,” Sen. Flexer said. “My concerns with Scotland Town Hall are two-fold: we have to save this important piece of local history, and we have to make it work for all residents from an accessibility, safety, and convenience point of view. That’s what today’s CIF funding will help accomplish. When all is said and done, local residents are only going to directly pay for about four percent of this $4.7 million project – the vast majority of it will be paid for by state and federal grants. It’s a real testament to the necessary nature of town and state/federal relationships and partnerships. With this funding, the renovation will finally be completed, and town employees and residents alike will be able to enjoy a historic, accessible, fully functional town hall in the center of town.”
This is the third round of CIF funding that Connecticut has provided for the Scotland Town Hall renovations; the two previous grants were $581,000 and $600,000 for the same project.
Today’s grant will pay for rising construction costs and newly required parking and drainage work, as well as for critical interior work, environmental mitigation, HVAC upgrades, lighting, and landscaping improvements.
