UK Intercepts Suspected Shadow Fleet Tanker in English Channel Operation

(MENAFN) The United Kingdom carried out an interception of a shadow fleet oil tanker attempting to transit the English Channel, Prime Minister Keir Starmer said on Sunday, describing the operation as a coordinated action involving military and law enforcement agencies.

According to Starmer, he personally authorized the operation in the early hours of the morning, directing British Armed Forces to respond to the vessel’s passage through the busy maritime route.

He said the operation was successful and framed it as part of broader efforts to counter networks linked to Russia’s oil exports amid the war in Ukraine. Starmer added that the action served as a warning to those facilitating Russia’s war effort, saying such operations would not be allowed to proceed unnoticed.

The prime minister also expressed gratitude to the personnel involved, highlighting their role in carrying out the interception.
