England's World Cup Gear Stolen in Kansas City

(MENAFN) England's national football team has been hit by an equipment theft ahead of their World Cup opener, with Kansas City police confirming the incident and two individuals reportedly taken into custody, according to multiple media reports on Saturday.

The breach occurred when vehicles carrying training gear to Swope Soccer Village — England's designated base in Kansas City — were broken into prior to the squad's arrival, BBC reported.

The Football Association is now working to establish the full extent of what was taken. Footballs and boots are among the items feared lost in the raid.

Head coach Thomas Tuchel and his players were set to touch down in Kansas City on Saturday afternoon, with the stolen equipment having been dispatched ahead of time to ensure the facility was match-ready upon their arrival.

Officers were deployed to the scene Friday night and remain in active contact with the association as the probe continues.

A spokesperson for Kansas City police stated, "We are investigating a possible theft of equipment from a team vehicle that arrived in Kansas City with items missing this evening. The investigation is ongoing."

Two arrests have since been made in connection with the theft, per available reports.

The incident threatens to disrupt England's preparations ahead of their World Cup group stage clash against Croatia on Wednesday at 21:00 British Summer Time (20:00 GMT).

The squad's first full training session is pencilled in for Sunday, raising questions over whether replacement gear can be sourced in time.
