Of Note: 

  • Approved a number of additions to the new Middletown Public Library project at 110 Enterprise Drive paid for with private donations and similar no tax sources. Project leaders said the work would improve the overall building and what it offers to all segments of the community. If everything moves according to schedule, the work was expected to be substantially complete by the end of the year. For updates, visit https://mdl.town/LBC online. “There’s been a lot of support in the community for this project and we’re grateful to all our donors,” council President Paul M. Rodrigues said. “We can’t say thank you enough to each and every one of them.”
  • Approved a special event permit for the Bike to the Beach New England 100 miles charity bike ride from Boston benefiting autism service providers on Sept. 19 from 11 am-3 pm throughout the community and ending in Newport.
  • Voted in favor of extending the hours of the Second Beach concession stand daily from 11 am-6 pm through the end of September to offer better service and amenities to beachgoers later into the season.
